GUEST SPEAKER — Lyn Braid My Life
As the newest member of our club, Lyn, stepped up to the plate, at very short notice, to be our speaker tonight. Lyn was born in Melbourne, she is the eldest of four children; three sisters and a brother. Lyn spent a lot of her youth travelling, by the time she left school, Lyn had been to ten schools. Lyn left school at 16 and became a relief telephonist, this allowed her to travel again and she worked all over Queensland and Victoria. The only state Lyn has not been to is Western Australia.
Lyn got married and had three children; two sons and one daughter and now has nine grandchildren. Lyn married a man in the army which meant more travelling. Thirty five years ago she was going to Perth but got to Whyalla and she has not been to Perth yet. Working in Whyalla was with BHP, again as a telephonist. After twenty years the technology changed and Lyn voluntarily gave up work to take it easy. That lasted two years and then she went to work as a carer with Intellectually Disabled clients.
Currently, working with BIS in the clerical side Lyn is still a carer and volunteers for Central’s football club. Lyn enjoys her voluntary work and travelling. This time last year she was in Hawaii and America. Her favourite trip was to Birdsville and back. Lyn thinks there is a lot to see in Australia. Finally, as Lyn said she is “still the newest member of the Rotary Club of Whyalla.”
